Museum Closed but Schlegelmilch House Open
Posted: August 19, 2017
The Chippewa Valley Museum will be closed on Saturday, September 23 for a special event. Visitors can instead enjoy an open house event with the Three Seasons Treasure Hunters club at the Schlegelmilch House from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The event features hands-on activities for families and children to learn about the hobby of metal detecting. Activities include a coin hunt and artifact guessing games. Live metal detecting demonstrations and educational displays will feature recovered objects, relics, and collectibles.
Visitors can try out metal detecting equipment and get information about the latest technologies from club members. Check out the club's Facebook page to learn more.
Visitors may also enjoy tours of the historic home built in 1871 by German immigrants Herman and Augusta Schlegelmilch. The house is filled with furnishings from the earliest days of its long history, including some items belonging to the Schlegelmilch family.
Admission is free and donations are accepted. Refreshments available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the Chippewa Valley Museum.
The Schlegelmilch House is located at 517 South Farwell Street in downtown Eau Claire. Contact Karen Jacobson at k.jacobson@cvmuseum.com or 715-834-7871 for details.
