Beginning Chip Carving Classes

A new series for wood carving enthusiasts is scheduled this coming January and February at the Chippewa Valley Museum in Eau Claire's Carson Park. Attendees will be introduced to the art of chip carving while learning the skills necessary to complete a custom-made project at the beginner level. Guest instructor Harold Walters, along with assistant Chuck Lindvig, will lead participants through six weekly sessions.

Participants will follow a step-by-step process to create a beautiful set of chip-carved coasters from blank canvases of wood. They will discover how to make their own patterns using a compass and laying out their work on a grid. They will also practice proper knife techniques and have time enough to hone their skills during each class.

Classes are scheduled on Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on January 9, 16, 30 and February 6, 13, and 27. Participants are encouraged to bring their own compass, a six or twelve inch ruler, and #2 pencils from home. All other tools and materials will be supplied.
