Ojibwe Beaver Shield Workshop
Posted: November 19, 2016
Create a personalized beaver shield and explore Ojibwe culture and traditions with artist and Lac Courte Oreilles tribal member Dick Mindykowski, on Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Chippewa Valley Museum.
Dick will share information on trapping and tanning techniques, as well as the methods used to hand-harvest the wood and other natural materials. The circular beaver shield represents the Great Circle of Life, marking the four winds, the four seasons, and the four stages of life. Attendees may choose either a beaver or bison shield.
Advance registration required. All materials provided. Open to ages 13 and older, or 12 and under with adult supervision. Families welcome. $55 per project for museum members, $60 for non-members.
